Connecting Rods

Rebuilding your Porsche engine? It's always a good idea to upgrade your connecting rods with new bolts from ARP since factory rod bolts are notoriously weak. When replacing the stock rod bolts, it's always good practice to have your connecting rod big ends resized which requires the caps to be ground and main housing bore precision honed to original specifications. The wrist pin bushings should also be replaced and honed to match the wrist pins that you are going to be running. However, if you are planning on revving your engine above 7400 rpm or making more than 400 horsepower, it's a good idea to replace your original connecting rods with a set of forged or billet rods like those LN Engineering offers for aircooled and watercooled Porsche engines from Carrillo, Pauter, and K1. Same goes for Porsche Boxster, Cayman, and 911 models with the M96 and M97 engine that are known to suffer from connecting rod failures. When overhauling these engine, the stock cracked cap connecting rods need to be replaced. Chromoly connecting rods offer increased strength and mild weight reduction over heavy original Porsche connecting rods. Titanium rods offer even greater reduction in both static and reciprocating mass, making engines more responsive and allowing engines to operate at higher rpms safely, like Porsche's GT3 engine that comes from the factory with Pankl Titanium rods.
