Parts and Upgrades for Porsche Boxster, Cayman, and 911 Models

Whether you track your car or not, LN Engineering offers upgrades beyond Nickies and IMS for your Boxster, Cayman, and 911 models that help increase reliability both on and off the track. As preventative maintenance, we recommend several upgrades beyond changing the intermediate shaft (IMS) bearing and replacing the rear main seal (RMS):

  • Only use a Genuine Porsche rear main seal, to prevent repeated rear main seal leaks using the the proper rear main seal installation tool.
  • If you haven't changed your IMS, what are you waiting for? If already changed, check the service interval of the IMS bearing your engine has been fitted with. Service intervals vary from four to six years depending on bearing type or permanent, if an IMS Solution has been fitted.
  • Every 4 years or 50,000 miles, engines should be fitted with a new Genuine Porsche or OEM water pump with a composite impeller and LN 160F low temperature thermostat. Replace belt and check idler pulleys for worn bearings and replace as needed. A failed water pump can damage your block, lead to cracked heads, or an over-heated engine.
  • For street cars in hotter climates or cars that will see track use, consider adding a center radiator or even upgrading to CSF Radiators.
  • Change your oil every 6 months or 5,000 miles using Driven DT40. Adding a spin-on oil filter adapter with full-flow filtration ensures 100% of engine oil is filtered and eliminates the factory oil filter bypass. Coupled with a magnetic drain plug, these two easy upgrades help to improve your engines cleanliness and help to identify problems before they become serious when paired with regular used oil analysis from Speed Diagnostix.
  • Have your AOS health checked regularly by taking manometer readings and replace when Genuine Porsche AOS if needed.
  • When changing your IMS and RMS, be sure to check your dual mass flywheel (DMF) and replace if it does not meet the factory deflection and spring back specification and only replace with a Genuine Porsche or LUK DMF.
  • If you are tracking your car, consider a Motorsports AOS and don't overfill your engine with oil. It's best to run the oil at the minimum oil level and run Driven XP9 race oil to reduce oil aeration that can lead to engine failure. Be sure to use a 2 quart deep sump for added oil volume and improve oil control with the integral anti-slosh tray and X51-style baffle.
  • A power steering cooler is a must on cars that will see track use to prevent common power steering failures. Adding an underdrive pulley helps with this as well, but will affect engine cooling and charging system efficiency in street driven vehicles.
  • Don't forget to service your gearbox fluids as well. Street cars should have their gear and pdk/tiptronic fluid/filter changed every 2 years or 24,000 miles. Track use shortens service intervals - consider adding gearbox cooling.
