EBS Racing Oil Baffle Installation Instructions
1. Start by draining the engine oil into a suitable container for recycling. Now is the time for an oil filter change as well.
2. Remove all the of the oil pan bolts and carefully pry the pan from the case. There are several points around the pan designed for this procedure. Be sure to support the pan with one hand as you do this as there will be some residual oil that will make a mess if it drops to the floor!
3. Once the pan is out, remove the 3 bolts that hold the original oil baffle to the pan and set your old baffle aside. Use solvent or brake parts cleaner to remove oil and sludge from the pan. If you observe metal or plastic bits in the pan you may want to stop and reassess the project as you may have excessive wear or damage in the engine. Be sure to remove all of the old sealant from around the pan and the interface on the engine case.
4. Place the new baffle over the 3 bolt holes of the pan to check alignment. Install the 3 new bolts by hand and lightly tighten. If the baffle does not seat easily against the pan one or both of the lower baffle seals may need to be removed. This is OK as different pan castings allow for slight variations in fitment. Once fitted properly, apply a drop or two of the supplied blue thread locking compound and torque the 3 bolts to 10 Nm (7.5 ft/lbs.).
5. To get a feel for how your new baffle fits in the case, I recommend test fitting first without the sealant applied to the pan. It helps to lightly lubricate the vertical baffle seals with a touch of engine oil for test fitting. I find that inserting the assembly slightly off center towards the 1-3 bank of the engine (passenger side for a Boxster/Cayman, driver's side for a Carrera) and moving towards the center as you insert it into the engine helps to clear the oil return swirl pots. Try this until you get the feel of easy installation. The pan should insert easily to the point where is will sit less than .25” above the engine case. Remove and apply a 1.0mm bead of sealant to a dry, oil free pan, make the final installation, install all of the bolts a couple turns and hand tighten down in a crossing pattern. Final torque to 10 Nm.
6. Insert the oil pan drain plug, with a new seal ring, and torque to the recommended value of 19 ft/lbs for aftermarket magnetic type or 37 ft/lbs for the original version. Fill engine with the appropriate amount of oil for your application and start the engine. Allow the engine to warm up enough so the fans cycle on while checking for any oil leaks.
