From street to competition, LN Engineering's machine shop offers premium services to assist with rebuilding Porsche engines including Nikasil cylinder reconditioning for aircooled and watercooled engines. From single aircooled cylinders to watercooled Lokasil or Alusil Boxster, Cayman, 911, Panamera, and Cayenne V8 engines, LN Engineering provides cylinder refinishing solutions using NSC (nickel silicon carbide) plating honed to LN Engineering specifications. 100% of cylinders and blocks are QC checked by LN Engineering in house for ovality, taper, and proper surface finish. Nickies cylinders and block sleeving can be found under the Products menu.

RND remanufactured cylinder heads benefit from years of experience with thousands of Porsche heads repaired and rebuilt by our specialists to date. 100% of components are tested, reconditioned, or replaced and feature multi-angle Serdi valve job, Viton seals, and critical surfaces are diamond milled, exceeding original manufacturer specifications.

  3. Intermediate Shaft (IMS) Rebuild Service

    Intermediate shaft (IMS) rebuild service includes inspection of IMS for runout, re-conditioning, and pinning of the main drive sprocket. Did you know the IMS drive sprockets aren't indexed or keyed? The intermediate shaft is made up of 3 sprockets pressed onto a tube, which means they can move, and even worse, they can come out of alignment of the IMS bearing housing bore. Excess runout will lead to increased bearing and chain wear! Please verify the correct IMS chain drive before ordering. If advance replacement is selected, you will be charged a refundable core charge and you will receive an early or late shaft that may have a different ims housing bore for single row, dual row, or 06-08 bearing, depending on our current inventory. If the core you supply has been modified in any way, suffered any failure or damage, or has more than .005” of runout, the core charge will not be refunded to you and your intermediate shaft core will be returned at your expense if requested. If you are purchasing an IMS bearing from us, it is best to contact us first as to what cores we have available so as to ensure you purchase the right replacement bearing. If requested, we will install the bearing for you in the intermediate shaft for no charge as part of our IMS reconditioning service when you purchase an IMS bearing upgrade from LN Engineering. Deck is precision ground to ensure optimal head gasket sealing. The Nickies Lite service is only offered in stock bore sizes and price does not include pistons, rings, pins, or clips. Original press-fit piston oil squirters must be removed to allow machine work and honing. We update all 9A1/MA1 blocks to use user replaceable piston squirters (squirters are included).   7. Nikasil Cylinder Reconditioning

    Porsche Nikasil cylinder reconditioning using Millennium Technology's nickel silicon carbide NSC-plating and honed to LN Engineering specifications. Cylinders are stripped, re-plated, media blasted, and honed. 100% of cylinders are quality control checked by LN Engineering and measured for ovality, taper, and surface finish (Rk, RpK, RvK) to ensure the best results on your rebuild. If you don't have the proper tools to correctly measure your cylinders - dial bore gauge, ring gauge, and profilometer, you don't know if you cylinders are correctly finished. Factory cast iron or alloy (aluminum Ferral/Chromal/Alusil/Nikasil) cylinders can be reconditioned; cylinders without sealing ring grooves can be bored oversized during the reconditioning process at no extra charge. If you have an aluminum cylinder that is damaged where there plating or coating is gouged, we can fix that too (for a small fee). With careful welding, we can build up the area and have the cylinder bored out and plated back to its original size. NOTES: 1. Surface grinding option not available for 2.0 911 and 914-6, 4 cam Carrera, or cylinders with head gasket or sealing rings grooves in the cylinder head mating/surface (deck). 2. The factory 3.3 turbo half-finned cylinders should not be re-plated or reused in our opinion. The same goes for any cylinder that is severely ovaled or distorted from overheating or damaged from detonation or over-boost. Tell tale signs of this damage can be found by performing a visual inspection of the sealing surface, rings, and pistons for detonation. Rockwell testing can also be used to test if any one cylinder is significantly softer than the others, it is suspect to be bad and should be replaced. Price per cylinder.   8. Vapor Blasting Service

    Engine blocks or cases that are very dirty, stained, or heavily oxidized need more cleaning than our standard hot jet wash service that is included with our Nickies sleeving process. Our vapor blasting service will remove most of the baked on grime, staining, and corrosion common to magnesium and aluminum engines. We also offer this service for aircooled engine cases. Although cases are washed, it is up to the engine builder to clean all water and oil passages to ensure no vapor blast media remains in those passages. Discounted pricing as shown on vapor Blasting Service is available only with qualifying Nickies purchase.     Is your Porsche engine case damaged? We can correct most damage and carry out broken bolt extraction, aluminum welding, fabrication, and/or remachining to restore your aircooled or watercooled aluminum engine block to as good as new. Minimum one hour charge for setup and repair. Price per hour. Parts and materials extra. Examples shown include a cracked m96 block that had a broken bolt that needed to be extracted, crack welded, and area remachined; 9A1 MA1 engine block where we had to fabricate a boss that was broken off the block and weld it back in place, then machine it; repair of incorrectly machined aircooled 911 case where the registers and deck had to be machined, sleeved, and re-machined to restore the proper case geometry and surface finishes.
