Mahle Motorsports Piston and Cylinder Sets for Porsche 356 and 912 Engines

Since the introduction of the Porsche 356, Mahle has been a supplier of pistons and cylinders to Porsche including cast iron, ferral, chromal, biral, and eventually nikasil cylinders as cylinder technology evolved through the years. Todays Mahle Motorsports cylinder sets include lightweight 2618 forged Mahle pistons and Nickies billet aluminum cylinders. Mahle Motorsports Porsche 356 and 912 piston and cylinder kits include thinner and stronger rings that improve ring seal while reducing friction. Modern piston rings improve bore conformity resulting in less blow-by and reduced oil consumption. Mahle Motorsports kits run cool and are designed to outlast all other piston and cylinder sets for your Porsche 356 or 912 engine and are available in popular slip-fit 1720cc (86mm) and machine-in 1925cc (91mm) bore sizes.

High-Performance Engine Kits for Porsche 356 C, SC, and 912 Models

LN Engineering Porsche 356 performance engine kit with Nickies cylinders, Mahle pistons, ARP hardware, and camshaft.

LN Engineeringโ€™s Porsche 356 and 912 engine kits are engineered to deliver modern performance while maintaining classic drivability. Designed to work seamlessly with stock componentsโ€”including your original C, SC, or 912 crankshaft, rods, and Solex or Zenith carburetorsโ€”our engine kits are the ideal foundation for your next build or upgrade.

Available in 1720cc and 1925cc configurations, each kit features our industry-leading Nickiesโ„ข aluminum cylinders with NSC plating for superior cooling and longevity. We’ve chosen to include Mahle or CP Pistons (Pankl) in these kits as both companies are OEM suppliers to Porsche and are a perfect match for our Nickies. We pair these with custom camshafts ground on new billets, optimized for real-world drivingโ€”delivering smooth torque and peak horsepower by 5000โ€“6000 RPM. The 1925cc option produces more torque off idle than a stock 1600cc engine at full load, all while running coolโ€”even in demanding conditionsโ€”with no need for an upgraded oil cooler, unless you live in the Sahara. We typically see oil temps in the 180-190F range on a 85-90F day, with sustained highway speeds and stock C gearing. Cylinder head temps should never exceed 350-400F, even under full load, ensuring excellent engine longevity.

Our engine kits are compatible with stock exhaust systems and are designed to run on premium pump fuel, even the stuff sold in California!

For ignition, we recommend the 123 Ignition bluetooth programmable distributor, and we provide a base tune to help get your build started.

Head options include reconditioning your existing heads, performance heads based on brand-new castings, or billet aluminum JPS heads.

While jetting is left to the builder due to environmental and setup variables, we strongly recommend using a wideband O2 sensor to monitor air-fuel ratiosโ€”Nickies cylinders promote leaner combustion than iron, with ideal AFR targets in the mid-13s for most driving, and no leaner than the low 14s (stoichiometric is 14.7:1).

To complement your kit, LN Engineering also offers full automotive machine shop services including line boring, crankshaft inspection and polishing, dynamic balancing, and ring gapping upon request. Our goal is to provide a proven, efficient engine package that maximizes value and delivers long-term reliability.
