The First and Original Boxster & 911 IMS Bearing Replacement Tools

LN Engineering IMS Pro Tool Kit 106-08.13 for Porsche Boxster and 911 IMS bearing replacement

As the original IMS bearing fitted to 986 Boxster and 996 911 models did not have a part number or service interval provided, there were no factory IMS bearing replacement tools or procedures available to allow for the servicing of the intermediate shaft bearing on Boxster and 911 vehicles. The IMS Retrofit replacement procedure and required tools to change your IMS bearing in a Boxster or 911 vehicle were pioneered by LN Engineering and Flat 6 Innovations, including the patented Faultless IMS Tool that allows you to install a dual row IMS bearing in place of the factory Porsche single row IMS bearing using an internal wire lock, similar to how the factory dual row bearing was retained.

All our IMS bearing replacement tools are designed for a lifetime of service and make sure that the job is done right every time. Be sure you have the right tool for the right job, as some IMS kits like the IMS Solution and Single Row Pro IMS Retrofit require additional tools for installation. It is important to have all the required IMS bearing replacement tools prior to carrying out any IMS procedure, as not locking the camshafts and crankshaft at TDC along with removal of the chain tensioners can cause severe engine damage. Always follow the intermediate shaft bearing replacement procedures specified for the product to be installed to prevent engine damage or failure.

Porsche Boxster IMS Bearing Replacement Tools

To replace the IMS bearing, all Porsche Boxster models 97-05 will require the use of the IMS Pro Tool Kit (106-08.13). The IMS Pro Tool kit includes the IMS bearing puller, IMS adapters for the stock and LN ims bearing, one 5-chain and one 3-chain cam lock, TDC crank lock pin, and the LN ez-out tool that allows you to pull the bearing if the center stud has broken. If replacing the factory single row bearing with the Single Row Pro IMS Retrofit (106-08.2.2), the Faultless IMS Tool (106-08.22) is required. Installation of any IMS Solution bearing replacement will also require the IMS Supplemental Tool Kit (106-08.21).

Porsche 996 IMS Bearing Replacement Tools

Just as with all Boxster models, Porsche 996 models from 99-04 will require the IMS Pro Tool Kit (106-08.13) to lock the crankshaft at TDC and camshaft before pulling the chain tensioners to allow the IMS flange and bearing to be safely removed and replaced. Engines fitted with the factory single row IMS bearing will also need the Faultless IMS Tool (106-08.22) when installing the Single Row Pro IMS Retrofit (106-08.2.2). When installing the IMS Solution, the Supplemental IMS Tool kit (106-08.21) is also required for all models.

Porsche 997 IMS Bearing Replacement Tools

2006 through 2008 model year Porsche 997, Boxster, and Cayman models will have the non-serviceable IMS bearing, however the IMS Pro Tool Kit can be used to lock the crankshaft and cams to allow you to pull the IMS flange once the tensioners have been removed, which allows for removal of the grease seal off the factory IMS bearing for better oiling and to reseal the IMS flange. Some model year 2005 911 engines will be fitted with the larger non-serviceable bearing as well as any replacement engine build during or after model year 2006.
