M97.01 3.8L Porsche 911 997 Engine Rebuild Kit (Standard or Deluxe)
$6,468.00
Our extensive engine rebuild kits for 2005-2008 Porsche 911 997 models with the 3.8 liter M97.01 engine include hardware, bearings, seals, gaskets, and much more using only the highest quality Genuine Porsche, OEM, or aftermarket components from manufacturers like ARP and LN Engineering.
The optional upgrade to our premium kit also includes many more items that are often reused rather than replaced during rebuilds and are highly recommended. Please check each product description for a complete list of what is included with the standard as well as the premium engine rebuild kits.
When choosing the Deluxe option, we upgrade the kit to include Billet Tensioner Paddle, CP-Carrillo Connecting Rods, and Chromoly Oil Pump Drive recommended for all cars that might see track use.
Components that are normally reused and not included in these kits should be evaluated, qualified, and replaced if necessary. RND Engine Rebuild Kits do not include new pistons, rings, pins, or clips and are designed as a supplement to our block repair process. The Nickies cylinder sleeving service (or Nickies-Lite direct plating) and matching piston set is sold separately. IMS bearing is also not included and is sold separately.
Photos shown are representative of what may be included in an engine kit and will vary by engine designation and options selected.
If you are planning on rebuilding the 3.8 liter Porsche 911 997 engine in your 05-08 Carrera S, 06-08 Carrera 4S, or 07-08 Targa 4S, we recommend calling LN Engineering to discuss your Porsche engine rebuild and upgrade options including our Nickies sleeving and intermediate shaft reconditioning services.
Description
Porsche 997 Carrera S 3.8L M97.01 Engine Rebuild Kit
This Standard or Deluxe RND engine rebuild kit is specifically designed for the 3.8-liter M97.01 engine used in Porsche 997 Carrera S, Carrera 4S, and Targa 4S models. A successful M97 engine rebuild involves much more than replacing pistons, cylinders, bearings, and head gaskets. The cause of the original failure needs to be identified, cylinder condition must be corrected, and the engine’s other known weak points should be inspected and upgraded while the engine is already apart.
If you are rebuilding a different M96 or M97 engine used in a Boxster, Cayman, 996, or 997, visit our complete RND Porsche M96/M97 engine rebuild kit catalog to select the correct kit for your engine.
Before planning your rebuild or ordering parts, review our Ultimate Porsche M96/M97 Engine Rebuild Guide for a comprehensive look at what should be inspected, replaced, upgraded, and considered during the rebuilding process.
Complete Porsche M97 Engine Rebuild Parts, Services & Reliability Upgrades
RND engine rebuild kits simplify parts sourcing by bundling the commonly required hardware, bearings, seals, gaskets, timing components, and related rebuild parts in one package. But LN Engineering can also provide the specialized parts, machine work, inspection, and reliability upgrades needed to address the rest of the engine while it is apart.
- Nickies cylinder sleeving and bore repair: M96 and M97 Lokasil cylinders can suffer from bore scoring, cracking, slipped sleeves, and other cylinder failures. Our M96/M97 Nickies cylinder repair and sleeving program replaces the original cylinder structure with aluminum nickel-silicon-carbide plated sleeves for a permanent repair and performance upgrade.
- Intermediate shaft inspection and IMS strategy: M97.01 engines use the larger 2006-2008 IMS bearing configuration that is not normally serviceable externally. During a complete rebuild, the intermediate shaft can be inspected and the IMS bearing addressed while the engine is apart.
- ARP hardware and fasteners: Upgraded ARP connecting rod bolts, crankshaft carrier through-bolts, cylinder head studs, and other hardware can replace torque-to-yield or failure-prone factory fasteners while the engine is apart.
- Connecting rods and coated bearings: ARP rod bolts are recommended for street rebuilds, while larger-displacement, track, or higher-output engines may benefit from upgraded connecting rods. Coated rod and main bearings can add protection during startup, break-in, high-load operation, and boundary-lubrication conditions.
- Oil system upgrades: Deep sump kits, oil-pan baffles, spin-on oil filter adapters, magnetic drain plugs, and other oiling upgrades can improve protection for spirited street and track-driven cars.
- Cooling system upgrades: A low-temperature thermostat allows the cooling system to begin regulating earlier, while upgraded radiators can provide additional cooling capacity where required.
- Billet reliability upgrades: Billet tensioner paddles, chromoly oil-pump drives, underdrive pulleys, alternator mounts, and other upgraded components can replace known wear or failure-prone factory parts.
- Flat 6 Innovations-developed upgrades: Select reliability upgrades originally developed for Flat 6 Innovations M96/M97 engine builds are available for qualifying rebuilds.
Porsche M96/M97 Machine Shop & Engine Preparation Services
LN Engineering can also perform the detailed preparation work that separates a basic parts replacement from a properly blueprinted Porsche engine rebuild. Our Porsche engine machine shop services can support both professional engine builders and individual customers with specialized inspection, machining, and preparation work.
- Piston ring end-gap setup
- Ring light checking and ring-tension measurement
- Piston and connecting rod balancing
- Dynamic engine balancing
- Crankshaft magnaflux inspection and polishing
- Porsche cylinder head reconditioning and rebuilding
- Custom head gaskets for larger bores or resurfaced decks
- Engine blueprinting and dimensional inspection
Nickies solve the cylinder problem, but the complete engine package addresses the rest. When an M96 or M97 is already disassembled, it is the best opportunity to correct known weaknesses, replace wear items, and build in additional reliability before the engine goes back together.
