Head Studs

ARP head studs are high-performance fasteners that are designed to replace the factory head bolts in an engine. They are made from a special alloy steel that is heat-treated to increase its strength and durability. The head studs are longer than the factory head bolts, providing a more secure and stable connection between the cylinder head and the engine block.

In a Porsche engine, ARP head studs are recommended because they provide a higher level of safety and reliability. They can help to prevent engine failures caused by stretched or broken head bolts, which can lead to serious damage to the engine and other components. Additionally, ARP head studs can help to increase horsepower and torque by reducing the amount of flex in the cylinder head and to improve cylinder sealing, allowing your Porsche engine to make more power.

Overall, using ARP head studs in a Porsche engine can provide a number of benefits, including increased performance, improved reliability, and enhanced safety. They are a recommended upgrade for anyone looking to build a high-performance Porsche engine. They are also useful for high compression Porsche engines or those who are looking to increase the boost in their turbocharged Porsche engines.

  2. ARP 2000 Porsche 356 912 head stud kit inc. lube. Uses stock head fasteners.

    SKU: 202-01

    $399.00
Our Porsche 356 and 912 ARP head studs have been manufactured by ARP for us since 2002 utilizing their upgraded ARP 2000 material over the standard ARP 8740 or stainless steel studs sold by other companies. These are specifically designed to provide accurate torque and tension on the cylinder head through repeated heat cycles and are the perfect complement to our Nickies cylinders. We recommend torquing to 24-28 ft/lb using the supplied ARP lube; it is also recommended that you re-torque the cylinder heads after the engine has been broken in and heat cycled several times. We also offer an ARP case thru-bolt as an optional upgrade that is an LN Engineering exclusive. ARP hardware is a must on all performance Porsche engine builds; ARP head studs are proven and tested for a lifetime of reliability and performance and are required for use with Nickies cylinders. Installation Method for Porsche Head Stud Kit

    Part Number: 204-4206
    Application: Porsche 2.0L-3.8L Air-Cooled Engines

    1. Always verify the part number for your application with the part number on the side of box and the part number on the instruction sheet. This will help ensure you have the correct installation procedure for your specific application before installing any components.
    2. Clean and inspect all hardware prior to installation. Look for obvious defects or shipping damages plus proper fit, length, and dimension.
    3. To ensure proper thread engagement and accurate torque readings, clean ALL threads in the block. Chase if necessary with ARP Thread Chaser part number 912-0003 (M10 X 1.5).
    4. Screw the head studs into the left-hand and right-hand engine cases "HAND TIGHT ONLY". NOTE: LOCTITE MAY BE USED IF A PERMANENT MOUNTING OF THE STUDS IS PREFERRED.
    5. Install the cylinder barrels and the cylinder heads as described in the Porsche factory service manual. Check for binding or misalignment.
    6. Lubricate the stud threads, nuts, and washers with ARP ULTRA-TORQUE FASTENER ASSEMBLY LUBRICANT. Then install the washers and the nuts onto the studs and tighten them hand tight. ARP recommends using the ARP ULTRA-TORQUE FASTENER ASSEMBLY LUBRICANT that is provided with each kit as opposed to motor oil. This is due to higher friction on the studs as well as inconsistencies in the clamping force of the fasteners when motor oil or other low-quality lubricants are used.
    7. Install the camshaft housings onto the cylinder heads as described in the Porsche factory service manual. Note: The cylinder heads may have to be rotated slightly to align with the camshaft housing before final tightening the head studs.
    8. Following the manufacturer's recommended torque sequence, tighten the nuts in two equal steps to 38 ft-lbs with ARP ULTRA-TORQUE FASTENER ASSEMBLY LUBRICANT. Note: ARP Ultra-Torque Fastener Assembly Lubricant has been specifically designed to reduce tension preload scatter and eliminate the need to cycle high-performance engine fasteners before final installation. ARP Ultra-Torque far surpasses all requirements offered by previous ARP lubricants in terms of fastener preload repeatability and performance lubricating properties.
