DRIVEN Engine Oils

DRIVEN Engine Oils

Driven Racing Oil

Driven Racing Oils are formulated specifically for all-out race and high performance engines. What makes DRIVEN products different? In simple terms, DRIVEN products are unique because we always put the “Motor ahead of the Molecule”.

Competition drives innovation. The Driven Racing Oil brand was originally created to advance engine and driveline lubricant performance in professional racing engines, but today our innovations extend beyond the racetrack to the street and more. But what makes our products different? Driven Racing Oil delivers specialty lubricants designed to meet the requirements of your specialty application. For example, Driven pioneered the development of break-in oils, which provide the chemistry needed for initial break-in of a new engine. All our products provide unique formulas developed with the application in mind first. Because we always put the “motor ahead of the molecule”, Driven keeps things in the proper order. Motor oil is for the motor, not the other way around. Our product development team looks at the engine and how it is used; then we design application specific products using a “zero compromise” approach that delivers a measurable performance advantage.

Oil Additives and Oil Viscosity - Balance Is Best

Too much of one thing can hurt a lubricant. Having the right balance lets every component do it's job without hindering the other. Lake Speed Jr explains it all. All Driven Engine Oil formulations are balanced to provide a balance of wear protection and increased performance. There is no need to add oil additives of any kind when using Driven motor oils. Likewise, running a thicker oil than needed won't provide any added protection, so having the right formulation as far as what additives are used and in what amount as well as in the proper viscosity will determine how an oil will work for any given application. Never forget the 4 R's - the right oil, in the right amount, in the right place, at the right time.

Keep your oil cool, clean, and dry

We all know that contaminants such as dirt and moisture are bad for your engine and your oil. Likewise, too low or too high of oil temperatures are also bad. Using a quality oil filter like a Napa Gold or Wix oil filter is a good first start. Driven recommends changing your oil filter between oil changes to reduce contaminants in your engine and also extend the life of the oil. As moisture is the enemy of your engine and oil, keeping the oil temperature between 180-220F is ideal to control moisture in your engine and reduce the formation of acids that break down oil additives. For every 20 degrees F over 220F, oil life is significantly reduced, so keep an eye on your oil temperature. Case in point, modern engines run hot - we have seen oil temperatures well over 220F and as high as 300F at the track.

Get the Facts Straight on Oils

When you know the facts, you can make informed decisions about your oil. There is lots of misinformation on the internet and marketing hype. We are firm believers in Driven oils. Not only has LN Engineering worked closely with Driven to develop their DT40 and DT50 oils, extensive used oil analysis was done on these oils in water-cooled and aircooled Porsche engines, proving to us Driven works. But don't take our word for it - analyze your oil every 6 months. By building trend data for your engine, you can evaluate the current health of the motor, how well the oil is protecting the engine, and can help to identify component failures well before they become catastrophic.

We recommend oil changes every 6 months or 5000 miles, whichever comes first, using Driven DT40 engine oil.

Formulated Specifically For Modern Sports Car Engines

DT40 utilizes advanced synthetic base oils to provide high temperature and high shear protection for high output performance and turbocharged engines, as well as European sports car engines with and without variable valve timing. DT40 reduces oil consumption by limiting oil vaporization and foaming. Ideal for modern German, Italian and British sports car engines, and is compatible with E85 and water/methanol injection. Viscosity typical of 5W-40. An excellent upgrade over any factory Porsche approved A40 oil.

    Increased Moly Content

Typically, most European oils have 0 to 50ppm of moly. Driven DT40 has over 300 ppm of moly in the form of MoDTC. Research has shown that increases in ZDDP and moly content can help reduce wear (bore scoring) in engines with hypereutectic bores, like Alusil and Lokasil.

Driven DT40 is recommended for engines requiring an A40 Porsche approved oil. Please note that Driven DT40 does not carry factory Porsche A40 approval but meets or exceeds the requirements for any engine requiring an A40 oil. For direct injected engines or those requiring a Porsche C40 spec oil, please use Driven DI40.

Note: We recommend DT40 in place of Driven HR6 Synthetic Hot Rod 10w40 oil.

Driven DT oils do not meet current ILSAC GF-6A, GF-6B, and API SP standards and is not recommended for vehicles with particulate filters or where emission system or LSPI protection is required; Driven DI oils are recommended for these applications. Safe for use on vehicles with catalytic converters.

Due to filter availability, we may substitute Mann ML1013, Mahle OC999, or Baldwin B31 oil filters for the Napa Gold 1042 / Wix 51042 filter and we may substitute Napa Gold 1215, Wix 51215, Mann W7015, Mahle OC1063, Hengst H319W, or Baldwin BT223 oil filters for the Napa Gold 1348 / Wix 51348 filter. The only Napa Gold filter we recommend is the one made by Mann-Hummel (Wix) made in Mexico or the USA; purchasing your replacement oil filter from LN Engineering will ensure you receive the correct filter for your engine. We may substitute a suitable replacement filter other than a Napa Gold when needed. We do not recommend using the Napa Select or Platinum oil filters.

Driven Racing Oils XP Series engine oils are specifically formulated for race and track applications. It's important to note that these oils are not designed for street use. Unlike conventional street oils, XP Series oils do not contain the detergents, dispersants, and corrosion inhibitors that are necessary for daily driving conditions. As a result, engines should not be stored with XP oils, and the maximum oil drain interval is limited to 500 miles. This makes XP Series oils ideal for a typical track day or race weekend but not recommended for regular street use.

Driven XP9 Synthetic Race Oil has a typical viscosity of 10w40.

Please note that although Driven XP9 has high levels of ZDDP, above API limits that some claim may harm catalytic converters, this oil is safe for use in Porsche engines with catalytic converters and is highly recommended for use when tracking your Porsche. In our honest opinion, protecting your Porsche engine comes first. It's cheaper to replace your cats than your engine.
